After a few days of speculation that a hiring was close, SMU announced Sunday that Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris will be named head coach Monday.

The rumors were true at SMU.

SMU, which fell to 0-11 on the season with a 35-9 loss to Houston in their final home game of the season Saturday, will announce the hiring of Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris as their head coach on Monday, according to CBS Sports.

Morris, 45, has been at Clemson under Dabo Swinney for the last four seasons. The Tigers (9-3) are averaging 30.1 points per game this season—their lowest average in Morris’ four seasons running the offense.

That’s been with an unsettled quarterback situation. Senior Cole Stoudt began the season as the starter, lost the job to true freshman Deshaun Watson, and then got it back because of an injury.

Stoudt, though, has thrown 10 picks and only six touchdowns in 265 attempts this season. Watson, in 138 attempts, has 14 touchdowns and only two picks.

Morris, a Texas native, coached high school football in Texas for 16 years before jumping to the college ranks as associate head coach/offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2010. He moved to Clemson the following season.

Tom Mason has been the interim coach at SMU since June Jones resigned in September for “personal reasons’ after an 0-2 start. He was 36-43 in parts of seven seasons with the Mustangs.
