The greatest goalie of this generation has at least more run between the pipes left in him.

Martin Brodeur signed a one-year deal with the St. Louis Blues, as he will serve as a stopgap as starter Brian Elliot continues to recover from a knee injury. The 42-year-old will be paid in the neighborhood of $700,ooo along with incentives.

Brodeur had stated he wanted to return to play with a contender and gets his wish, as the Blues are tied with the Nashville Predators for first place in the Central Division.

Still, the sight of Brodeur in anything but a New Jersey Devils sweater will evoke images of other past greats who ended their careers wearing anything but the uniform of the team that made them legends.

Brodeur had spent the previous 23 seasons with the Devils, making his NHL debut as a 19-year-old in 1991. During his three-decade run with New Jersey, Brodeur won three Stanley Cups, four Vezina Trophies and five Jennings Trophies along with winning the Calder Trophy as a rookie.

He brings a 688-394-154 record to St. Louis, placing him atop the list of career wins. His 124 career shutouts is also an NHL record.

Elliot has been on the Blues’ injured reserve list since November 26 and had an 8-4-0 record with a 1.82 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.
