No. 1 – Todd Bowles: Defensive coordinator, Arizona Cardinals

Bowles will be the number one phone call from several teams this offseason once the Cardinals are eliminated for the playoffs. I would expect several teams to even hold off interviews until Arizona is done for the year because of their interest in Bowles.

An undrafted free agent who played for seven season in the NFL, Bowles understands the pain of sacrifice and waiting your turn, and draws the admiration and respect of his players.

At 51, his NFL stops include assistant coach positions with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles, and defensive coordinator positions with the Eagles and Cardinals. Bowles also served as interim head coaching with the Dolphins, who finished 2-1 under him.

As with Rob Ryan, teams who need serious upgrades at defense along with a new head coach will be first in line to interview Bowles, such as the Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders, or even teams with well established defenses such as the New York Jets or Cincinnati Bengals, should Marvin Lewis be let go.
