Blake Griffin hits game winning 3-pointer

Tonight’s game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns was insane. Which is why Blake Griffin hitting a game winning three pointer is the perfect ending. It’s weird, confusing, takes a second to realize what happened, and is filled with all kinds of excitement.

This play came to be when the Suns used their foul to give on the previous play. That foul used up up the Clippers timeout, designed play, and a lot of their clock. Without much clock left, the Clippers didn’t have very many options available to them.

When the ball hit rim at first I’m pretty sure most people in the arena thought Griffin’s shot wasn’t going in. It lacked the proper arc on a typical 3-pointer and was clearly rushed. Also, how often does Griffin hit this shot? It can’t be anywhere near enough to find him taking a step back automatic. Of course, the shot rattled around for a bit, and took the perfect bounce. A…Friendly Bounce you could say.

After the shot bounced in I think the Clippers fans in attendance were a little excited.

But did it count?

Two angles clearly showed Griffin behind the 3-point arc, proving the shot is worth all three points. Sorry fans that wanted a second overtime, you’ll just have to take the insane 3-pointer instead….or was it not so insane after all? Take a look at Blake Griffin’s shot chart this season.

In the spot where Griffin took his game winning three pointer he is shooting 50%. Sure he’s taken rarely any threes this season and only six in that particular spot but sample size is overrated anyways. You know what isn’t overrated? Game winning three pointers and Griffin has a few of those.
