After plenty of speculation and rumors, Jon Lester has made his free agency decision and has agreed to sign with the Chicago Cubs, according to multiple reports.
The wait is finally over. Jon Lester has made his decision and the highly-sought after free agent pitcher has chosen to sign with the Chicago Cubs.
News of the deal broke in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, following hours of countless speculation and rumors. After the San Francisco Giants dropped out of the running down the home stretch, the Chicago Cubs seemed like the most likely landing spot.
According to multiple reports, Jon Lester’s deal with the Cubs is a six-year contract worth $155 million.
Lester’s deal is the biggest free agent contract in Chicago Cubs history.
The previous largest Cubs free agent contract was $136 million to Alfonso Soriano.
During Jon Lester’s search for a new home, he drew interest from the Boston Red Sox, Cubs, Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. This is a big win for the Cubs and one that will bring some additional excitement to the fan base as we prepare for 2015.
