Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians quipped that division opponent St. Louis Rams are ‘always 8-8’ when discussing pre-game expectations.

The Arizona Cardinals continue to defy expectations and their Thursday night field-goal fest of a victory over the St. Louis Rams was just another gritty win along the way for the club. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians reprimanded the media while taking jabs at the Rams after St. Louis had been favored to win at home.

“I love it when nobody says you have a chance to win. There is an 11-3 team and a team that is always 8-8,” Arians said, per NFL.com. “You figure it out.”

The Cardinals entered the game with a 10-3 record, but still found themselves sitting as 4.5 point underdogs on the road against the feisty St. Louis Rams, who came off back-to-back monster efforts on defense. Even after Cardinals starting QB Drew Stanton fell with injury, Arizona held on to the win thanks to a vicious defense of their own.

“Everybody wanted to talk all that stuff about how great their defense is. I think they saw a good defense tonight, it was in red and white,” Arians said.

No arguments here. The Cardinals forced five straight three-and-outs from the Rams offense before Shaun Hill managed to lead them down for one field goal to bring the game to a 12-6 score. That’s as close as the Rams would get though as the game ended by that score, thanks largely in part to a running game that kept the ball in Arizona’s hands for most of the second half.

“We blocked them. I think they had been reading their press clippings way too much,” Arians concluded.
