Chicago Blackhawk’s Captain Jonathan Toews left Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins after being hit face-first into the boards, but seems to be okay afterwards.
The Chicago Blackhawks were faced with yet another test of adversity Thursday night against the Boston Bruins.
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews left the game in the second period and did not return after being hit face-first into the boards by Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. The Blackhawks were able to hold on without their captain though, winning the game 3-2 and extending their win streak to eight games.
It seemed like a harmless play by Dennis Seidenberg along the boards. Seidenberg tried to shoulder Toews into the boards, but instead got a bit behind the Blackhawks captain and made him fall awkwardly into the boards. Seidenberg seemed almost apologetic as Patrick Kane came to the aid of his teammate.

After the game, head coach Joel Quenneville was optimistic about his captain.
“(Toews) seemed all right,” coach Joel Quenneville said after the game. “We’ll see how he is (Friday). It looks like he’s going to be all right.”
Toews even stayed on the ice for the ensuing five-on-three power play, but exited the game immediately after the penalties had expired. So, it is a good sign the Toews was able to stay in the game for at least that much directly after the hit.
The Blackhawk’s main concern will undoubtedly be whether Toews has a concussion or not. Toews has a bit of history with concussions in the past, so the Blackawks will want to be extra careful of rushing their captain back in the lineup too soon.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Blackhawks, as they just received forward Patrick Sharp back from injury. Now, they may be down yet another forward. While the Blackhawks have shown great adversity already this season dealing with injuries, the loss of their captain and top-line center may be too big of a hole to fill.
