The Boston Red Sox acquire Wade Miley in a deal with the Arizona Diamond Backs.

The Red Sox reportedly obtained Miley for pitchers Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa – the portion which had been agreed upon Wednesday – and finished the deal by including minor league infielder Raymel Flores. With Miley the Sox get a reliable pitcher who has been close to 200 innings in all three of his major league seasons.

The Red Sox will look to the left-hander to continue delivering reliable starts this coming season as they chase for the pennant. Miley who is excited about becoming a member of the Red Sox was quoted as saying the following:

"“I really enjoy taking the mound,” said Miley in a conference call. “I would like to think of myself as a pretty fierce competitor and every time I get the opportunity to get the ball, I try to go as deep (in the game) as I can and give my team every chance to win that I can possibly can. I definitely take pride in making every start. If you make every start, there’s a good chance you’re going to rack up some innings.”"

In three seasons in the bigs, Miley sports a respectable 38-35 record with a 3.79 ERA.

Red Sox general manager identified Miley as an early target for the Red Sox and was thrilled to land him saying the following:

"“Wade was on a list of guys that we wanted to check in on at least,”said Cherington. “He’s already had three very successful seasons in the big leagues as a starter and given Arizona’s situation, we thought it was possible that they would listen. We checked in and had a series of conversations before and during the GM Meetings and since then.“There was a lot of back and forth, a lot of hot and cold. There were times when we thought it might be possible and then other times when it seemed to go away and fortunately, it kind of came back to us this week. There’s a lot we like about him. We followed him in college, and in the Cape League and followed him ever since. He’s obviously established himself in the big leagues and we see him being an important part or rotation.”"

Miley should be a nice acquisition for the Red Sox this season and looks to keep his durability up for this coming season. It is always nice to have a strong armed lefty taking the mound and expect to see the Red Sox as a serious contender for World Series.
