Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer recently apologized to the team after admitting he was the anonymous source who said the team had ‘buyer’s remorse’ with QB Jay Cutler’s contract.

The Chicago Bears waved the flag of dysfunction in back-to-back beatings at the hands of two of the best teams in the NFL, but that was only the beginning. Soon rumors leaked that the team was having ‘buyer’s remorse‘ for handing quarterback Jay Cutler a monstrous 7-year $126 million contract with $54 million in guarantees. As it turns out, that source was offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer, who gave an emotional apology when confessing as much to Bears players.

“I said what I had to say to the players,” Kromer told the Chicago Tribune.

Cutler reportedly sighed and shook his head as Kromer made his tearful confession, and the damage may already be done for the player who has gone through four quarterback coaches in six seasons with the Bears.

“I’m still kind of trying to sort my way through this to be honest,” one player said, also via the Tribune. “It’s one of the most (messed) up things I have ever seen.”

The Bears unfortunately don’t play in the NFC South, so their playoff hopes are shot at 5-8, but that could just be the tip of the iceberg for a team that would owe Jay Cutler $15.5 million in 2015 if they chose to cut him before the season.

Expect a widespread purge in the Bears organization this offseason. They may have no choice but to keep Cutler for next season, but the coaching staff and management are likely out of the door thanks to this abysmal 2014 season.
