After some uncertainty earlier in the week about the availability of quarterback Colt McCoy for Sunday’s game against the Giants, Washington will have their starting quarterback active for the game after he was cleared to play from the neck injury he suffered after being sacked by Robert Quinn in last week’s loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Washington head coach Jay Gruden commented earlier this week that if McCoy was cleared to play he would be starting over Robert Griffin III.

“We’ve had looks at all three quarterbacks and based on what we have seen out at practice, for the whole training camp and offseason and the game situations, right now we feel Colt is in the lead,” Gruden said, via ESPN.com. “So if he’s healthy and gets a clean bill of health then he will be our starter.”

McCoy has been able to take part in the team’s practices this week and said he has been feeling better as the pinched nerve in his neck has calmed down.

“I’m doing a lot better,” McCoy said. “It has to continue to calm down. But I’ve seen significant recovery over the last few days.”

McCoy is 1-2 as a starter this year, but has dropped his last two starts since taking over for an ineffective Griffin, including throwing two interceptions and zero touchdowns in the 24-0 loss to the Rams last week.
