After the Arizona Cardinals lost their second quarterback on the season, Kurt Warner stayed up late weighing whether he could come back to help the team out.

The Arizona Cardinals lost quarterback Carson Palmer for the season to injury during an incredible campaign. They kept winning though, despite having to play with back up Drew Stanton for the rest of the season.

On Thursday Night Football against the St. Louis Rams, disaster struck again for the Cardinals as Stanton went down with a knee injury forcing them to play Ryan Lindley.

During the game Kurt Warner tweeted about the Cardinals quarterback situation and jokingly offered his services.

It was more than just a joke, Warner said in an interview with Doug and Wolf Friday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, that he stayed up late thinking about it seriously.

“I was up half the night actually considering could I still play,” he said. “We all have visions of what I could do five years ago, but since then, I’ve been chasing kids and playing basketball.

“If I really felt that I could come back and play, I would love to help this team out and the organization because I feel so bad for them.”

Of course that isn’t going to happen though, so Cards fans need to stop hoping for Warner’s return and embrace Lindley for the time being. Warner explained why he wouldn’t be coming back, or at least what is deterring him from doing so.

“We’re talking about the highest level of football in the world. We’re talking about the best players ever, and you think a guy could come off the couch and lead a team in the playoffs to the Super Bowl,” Warner asked with a laugh.
