The University of Houston has interviewed one candidate and is eyeing another as it seeks a replacement for Tony Levine, fired on Monday after three seasons.
According to a report, the University of Houston has interviewed former Florida coach Will Muschamp for its vacant head coaching position.
Yahoo Sports reported that Muschamp interviewed this week and that the school is also interested in Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman, who won the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football.

Muschamp, 43, is believed to be on the radar of several SEC schools as a defensive coordinator, but according to the report he wants to stay in the head coaching ranks.
Florida was 28-21 in Muschamp’s four seasons there. He replaced Urban Meyer after spending three years as defensive coordinator at Texas.
Herman, 39, has never been a head coach at any level. He became a coordinator for the first time at Texas State in 2005, moving to Rice in 2007, Iowa State in 2009 before taking his current posting with Meyer, coincidentally but not ironically enough, at Ohio State in 2012.
Levine, 42, was fired after going 21-17 in three years at Houston. He was promoted to the head coaching position after Kevin Sumlin left to take the head coaching position at Texas A&M.
Muschamp is a terrific defensive coach, but he’s a guy who will need two things to succeed as a head coach—1) a really strong offensive coordinator and 2) the self-discipline to leave said really strong offensive coordinator the heck alone and let him do his job.
Herman has rocketed onto the radar screen for his work with J.T. Barrett and then Cardale Jones at Ohio State this season, helping the Buckeyes into the College Football Playoff despite losing two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Braxton Miller to a shoulder injury in preseason camp.
