The San Francisco 49ers have placed linebacker NaVorro Bowman on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. They added defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey to IR as well.

49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman’s season has probably been more disappointing than the team’s season as a whole. Bowman spent the entire season trying to get back on the field as he recovered from tearing his ACL and MCL in a gruesome injury during last year’s NFC Championship game in Seattle. He had a total of 15 tackles in that game and the injury came on his final tackle.

Bowman has spent the rest of this season watching his team from the sidelines, watching as they slipped to 7-6 and head on the road to take on NFC West rivals in the Seattle Seahawks. He was added to the active roster from the PUP list on December 9, but continued to struggle to make headway in getting back on the field. The struggle ended on Saturday as the 49ers placed Bowman and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey on IR in advance of Sunday’s game, according to the team’s site.

In a corresponding roster move, the Niners placed cornerback Marcus Cromartie and guard Andrew Tiller on the active roster from the practice squad.

Upon coming off the PUP list, Bowman was candid and disappointed when he talked about his season so far.

"“It’s been hard, sad at the same time, especially when you want to take your brain and put it in the guys who are out there and allow them to see the things that I see on the sideline,” Bowman said. “But it’s part of it. That’s why we have 53 guys so the next man can step up and help our team out.“I understand that I wasn’t able to contribute to my team this year. It just sucks being on the sideline. That’s why I’ve been working so hard just to get back out there with them.” (via 49ers.com)"

Bowman had 192 tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions in 2013. Hopefully the All-Pro linebacker will make it back onto the field in 2015.
