Houston Texans starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was taken off of the field in an air cast today in NFL AFC South action against the Indianapolis Colts.

More from Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have been encouraged with the play of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick over the past couple of weeks, but he was taken off the field with an air cast on his leg today against the Indianapolis Colts. His injury occurred on a scramble, and it appeared that his leg might have twisted under a defender.

More information will become available over the next hour, and we will be sure to pass that information along to you. It’s extremely disappointing to see this happen to Fitzpatrick after he was figuring out how to play up to his potential with the Texans. Rookie quarterback Tom Savage was his backup this afternoon, and it is a big game to make a debut in to say the very least.

Hopefully the injury isn’t as serious as it is appearing at this point in time. Whenever an air cast is put on a leg, it is usually a sign that team doctors believe there could be a broken bone or a more serious injury. Fitzpatrick is a tough guy, but this one might be too much for him to overcome.

Savage is now tasked with the huge role of starting quarterback, and is in a must win game for his debut. The Colts are going to be looking to put a lot of pressure on him, and he’ll have to figure out the speed of the NFL immediately. This is a major disappointment for the Texans after they started off the game strong with an interception returned for a touchdown.
