It’s no secret that the NBA is dominated by the Western Conference, and there’s no coincidence that my top two divisions are from that conference.
The NBA isn’t the NFL in many ways, but perhaps nothing is more different than the way divisions work.
Winning the division is the first goal for any NFL team for the simple fact that it guarantees you a playoff berth. So it really doesn’t matter if the top team from the NFC South has a losing record since they are still going to the playoffs.
Things just aren’t like that on the hardwood. While teams that win their division still make the playoffs automatically, you’re not going to get teams winning their division with a losing record (under the current system).
The purpose of divisions in the NBA is mainly to help create rivalries and cut down on traveling.
With all that said, divisions are still something the basketball world has to recognize, and it’s fun to see which ones are the best.
