The Miami Marlins attempted to corner Major League Baseball’s winter market on cheesy, announcing the signing of Michael Morse via—wait for it—Morse code.

Never let it be said the Miami Marlins have any shame whatsoever.

To announce the signing of free-agent outfielder Michael Morse on Wednesday, the Marlins went to social media to send out Vines and tweets of the announcement in Morse code.

Awesome. Roland Emmerich will be pleased.

It began with an excited mascot:

Then to the announcement (turn your sound on or you’ll completely miss the point):

Followed by the official tweet and then the “official” official tweet:

So this is the 21st century. We’ve replaced one-line press releases with theatrical releases. Again, awesome.

It’s kind of a big deal for Morse, though, since he’s from Fort Lauderdale and went to high school in nearby Davie.

He hit .279/.336/.475 for the San Francisco Giants last season, with 16 homers and 61 RBI in 131 games while picking up his first World Series ring.

The gargantuan (6-foot-5, 245 pounds) Morse, who will be 33 in March, has played parts of 10 seasons in the big leagues with the Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles before going to San Francisco on a one-year deal in December 2013.

Morse’s new deal with Miami is for two years and $16 million, according to ESPN.com.
