Why Would They Want Rondo: It should be obvious why the Knicks wants Rondo as they need someone to pair with Carmelo Anthony and act as a second superstar on the team. That used to be Amare Stoudemire but he’d be part of a deal to get Rondo from the Celtics. It may not turn them around this season but the Knicks having up upper hand in signing Rondo in 2015-16 by having him on roster is worth the price of the trade.

Can They Afford Him: This is where it gets tricky as the Knicks may seek Jeff Green as  part of the deal to make sure Amare Stoudemire’s contract can be included. Tim Hardaway Jr and Iman Shumpert seem interchangeable in an offer with bit players playing a role. Adding in Gerald Wallace and Jeff Green allow for the contract of J.R. Smith to be added into the deal too. The goal would be to free up as much of their multi-year contract as possible so that maximum cap space is available to re-sign Rondo and make a run at a third free agent this summer.

Will They Pull Off A Trade: It’s a weak offer but it’s an offer nonetheless that stands up there with the better ones that Boston will hear. New York has a first-rounder to kick in, but will they give up their first-rounder right away after years of not having one? That’s the kink in the plan but this is an offer that Boston may not consider anyways.
