The Green Bay Packers have not had recent contract discussions with star wide receiver Randall Cobb as he heads towards NFL free agency following this season.

Randall Cobb has been a huge part of the Green Bay Packers’ offense over the last couple of years, but his future with the team could be in doubt. The Packers signed Jordy Nelson to a large extension this past offseason, and now they are in a spot where Cobb will become a free agent as well following this season.

Despite the fact that he could leave in free agency if Green Bay doesn’t get him locked up, there have been no recent contract talks between the two sides. Cobb is one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets, and the superstar quarterback has made it very clear that he wants the Packers to bring him back long-term. That being said, they certainly haven’t shown a feeling of urgency to get something done.

Greg Jennings was another star receiver that left just a couple short years ago, but he hasn’t been missed all that much since signing in Minnesota.

Cobb talked to the media about the lack of contract talks and whether or not he feels that he should be paid at a premium level.

"“It is what it is. That’s a question for you. Am I? I don’t know. I’m trying to be the best Randall I can be. I don’t know what that means, but I’m trying to be the best I can be. I’ll let everybody else decide what.”"

Through the first 14 games so far this season, Cobb has caught 76 passes for 1,076 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those numbers show just how valuable he has been for Rodgers and the offense, and the Packers simply cannot afford to allow him to walk. If they do, they will see a major dip in their offensive production.

Green Bay has some decisions to make with the offseason approaching, but they shouldn’t play with fire as far as Cobb is concerned. He is a very important piece of the Packers’ success, and they need to find a way to keep him.
