Browns Place Tashaun Gipson on Injured Reserve
The Cleveland Browns defense suffered a big loss.
The Cleveland Browns announced today that safety Tashaun Gipson has been placed on the injured reserve list. Gipson has been out since spraining his MCL against the Atlanta Falcons back in Week 12.
Gipson was previously targeting a Week 16 return, but he was not healthy enough to make his way back into the lineup.
The Browns are still technically alive for a playoff spot, but they have absolutely no margin for error. Veteran safety Jim Leonhard will take Gipson’s spot in the lineup when Cleveland faces the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte this Sunday.
It is an unfortunate end to the season for Gipson, who is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.
Despite his status on the open market, the belief is that the Cleveland Browns will lock up Tashaun Gipson with a long-term deal moving forward. Gipson currently leads the NFL in interceptions with six.
To fill the roster spot left by Gipson being placed on IR, the Browns signed outside linebacker Scott Solomon off their practice squad.
Entering Week 16, the Browns sit at No. 12 in the AFC playoff standings and will need a lot of hope if they want to find their way into the postseason.
