Chicago Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen will not play in the final game of the NFL season because of a concussion.

According to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, Chicago Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen will not play on Sunday because of a concussion.

Clausen was hit in the head by Detroit Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah late in the game on Sunday. Clausen went into a slide, and Ansah lowered his helmet and drilled Clausen in the side of the helmet.

Clausen was noticeably angry after the hit, and did not appear to be suffering form any concussion-like symptoms. He never left the game. It is not uncommon for concussion symptoms to show up hours after a head injury.

Clausen completed 23 of 39 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

According to Ian Rapaport, also from NFL Network, the Bears will go back to Jay Cutler at quarterback this week.

Clausen was playing against the Lions because of Cutler’s overall ineffectiveness this season. Offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer made headlines two weeks ago when he spoke to the press about Cutler not running the offense correctly.

The Bears signed Cutler to a massive contract extension, worth $126.7 million over seven years with $54 million guaranteed, prior to this season. The words “buyer’s remorse” have been used multiple times describing the deal in recent weeks.

Cutler will be backed up this week by rookie David Fales.
