Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen is pretty chill about his whole bench collapse incident

So, you’d be hard-pressed to find a hockey fan who didn’t hear about Jannik Hansen collapsing on the bench during the Vancouver Canucks game this weekend.

Hansen had seemed a little winded following a big — but clean as a whistle — hit by Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman, but no one was expecting him to collapse like he did. The whole situation was made even more frightening by the recent memory of Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley collapsing during a game between the Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets just this past spring; while Hansen regained consciousness on the bench, it was hard to forget that Peverley had not.

The winger was brought in to the hospital by ambulance during the game, where it was pronounced that he was fine. He stayed overnight for observation, but all seemed well… so well, in fact, that he made this quip when asked about the incident the next day:

Oh. Okay, Jannik.

The team had initially cleared him to play Monday night against the Arizona Coyotes, but it seems this saga is far from over — just hours before the opening puck drop, the Canucks announced that Hansen would not dress for the game, after all. It looks like the skater will require more tests before he’s actually medically cleared to play again.

It’s not a funny situation, and we all hope he’s okay — but he seems convinced that the hockey community has nothing to worry about.
