Manti Te’o was the next best thing since sliced bread as he was finishing his senior season at Notre Dame and about to go into the NFL draft. Then, his story about the girlfriend that he discovered didn’t exist was all anyone associated him with from that point on, fair or not. The joke seems to keep coming up, but Te’o is done with it and wants you to find a new joke.
Te’o apparently heard the joke come up yet once again this past Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers. Per profootballtalk.com, Niners tackle Anthony Davis said something to him about it.
"I got harassed a few times last year"
That’s what Te’o said via Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.
"I expected that. But this year? I told him, ‘Find a new joke."
I couldn’t agree more.
To me, the joke was old before his rookie season even started. I wasn’t a fan of all the jokes to begin with, because people were just being so mean-spirited about the whole thing.
As you can see, even as recently as today people still make Te’o jokes. It really has run its course. Te’o has moved on. Te’o has 48 tackles and an interception this season. He had 11 tackles against the Niners alone plus his team won. It sounds like the joke on Saturday was on Davis and the Niners.
