Georgia Bulldogs tight end coach John Lilly will take over play calling duties for Mike Bobo in their bowl game.

The Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to play the Louisville Cardinals in the Belk Bowl on December 30th, and there has been some drama going on with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo leaving to take the Colorado State head coaching job.

John Lilly, the Bulldogs’ tight end coach, has reportedly been named the offensive play-caller for their game against Louisville.

Having a new offensive coordinator who is calling his first game ever in a bowl game against a quality football team isn’t an ideal situation at all. Lilly is a very good coach, but this is a tough situation for anyone to be put in.

On a positive note, the Bulldogs do have a very impressive young running back in Nick Chubb.

Handing him the football will be a large portion of their gameplan, while they also have a solid game manager in Hutson Mason under center. It isn’t going to be easy to beat a Louisville team with a good defense and an offense capable of making plays.

That being said, the Bulldogs have the talent to pull off the win and this is a very nice job interview for Lilly. If he is able to do a good job with the play calling and can come away with a win, he might very well get the job long-term. Georgia is currently ranked 13th in the nation heading into the game, and Louisville is ranked 21st.

Georgia is going to have a very difficult task with a new ply caller, but they are more than capable of helping him get started early and making him feel comfortable in his new role.
