Any babies born at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center on the day of their College Football Playoff game against the Alabama Crimson Tide will be wrapped in ‘Beat Alabama’ blankets.

On the realm of things that crazy college football fans could be doing to commemorate the first ever College Football Playoff, wrapping babies in a blanket about defeating the other team is pretty tame.

As Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes prepare to face Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, the Wexner Medical Center will be wrapping any babies who are born in a blanket that says ‘Beat Alabama.’

It could say worse things, of course, and it is temporary. Even if the family of the baby does not like the Buckeyes, which seems unlikely, they can rest assured with the knowledge that it will only be fleeting.

Here is a look at the blankets in which babies will be wrapped if they are born the day of the playoff.

Those who are invested in this game know that there are layers to this match-up, especially for fans and those who like to debate the hot topics of college football. Obviously the opportunity to play in the National Championship is the most important thing at stake, followed more or less by the intrigue that surrounds this match-up between high profile coaches in Meyer and Saban.

There is also the tension between the SEC and the other conferences around the country to consider. Given the powerhouse teams that have come from the SEC in recent seasons and the grumblings about an “SEC bias” over the last couple years, it seems that any non-SEC team plays with a chip on its shoulders against an SEC opponent in a big game.

There certainly might be some of that in play for Ohio State, not to mention the fact that they got in the Playoff ahead of teams like TCU and Baylor that might have also been deserving of a spot in the playoffs. Whether it is fair or rational or not, Ohio State fans might feel like they have something to prove in this game.

That’s the fun of being a fan, after all. But suffice it to say that there will be signs of loyalty in the next couple days that are far more extreme than ‘Beat Alabama’ baby blankets.
