In the NBA, the point guard is the guy on the floor who is the general. He distributes the ball, scores when needed, and usually has the fate of his team in his hands. We will go over the top five point guards in the game today.

The point guard. In the NBA he is the floor general, the quarterback of the team. He is the coach on the floor. He controls the flow of the game. If he wants to go up tempo, you better keep up. If he takes it slow, you better be where you are supposed to be.

The fortunes and misfortunes of a team lie in the point guard. A good point guard makes things go so much smoother.

Just take a look at the Chicago Bulls and Derrick Rose. The last time the Bulls were true contenders was when he was healthy in the 2010 and the 2011 seasons. He went down for the last two seasons, and, even though they won a playoff series, they were never a true challenge for the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. Now that Rose is back and healthy, look at what happened — they are contenders once again. Not only contenders, but some consider them the favorites in the East.

This is the first in a series where I will take a look at the top 25 players in the NBA, five from each position. In this first look, I will look at the top point guards.

Here they are, the five best point guards in the NBA:
