Doug Marrone did not inform his Buffalo Bills players that he was leaving the team in the most respectful of manners.Â
NFL fans everywhere were stunned Wednesday when we learned that Doug Marrone had stepped down from his post as Buffalo Bills coach.
But it wasn’t just fans that were shocked by the move, Bills players were as well and a few of them let them be known via Twitter.
Lost all respect!! Completely pissed off, but not gonna let it ruin my New Years #Deuces #CantWait

How quickly things can change just had a team meeting Monday and wasn't given a heads up, but guess that's how this business works

Perhaps the primary reason Bills players did not see the move coming is that their coach hadn’t told them of his decision until after it was public. NFL Network’s Albert Breer is reporting that Marrone texted his players telling them of his stepping down once his decision was known.
Doug Marrone informed Bills players last night of his decision -- after news broke -- via a mass text. Said to call if they needed anything.

That’s a pretty rude move from Marrone.
As C.J. Spiller noted, Marrone had a meeting with his players just days prior and seemingly didn’t mention anything to them about possibly leaving. He also very easily could have called a meeting before the news became public and spoke to his players about his decision.
Instead, Marrone just sent them a lazy text, which surely contributed to the players’ anger about Marrone’s quitting.
While Marrone didn’t use proper etiquette with his players, it doesn’t appear that will hold him back in regards to landing another head coaching job, as the New York Jets are interested in his services, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The #Jets will have strong interest in Doug Marrone. And the #Bills will have strong interest in Frank Reich, the #Chargers OC

It will certainly be interesting to see how Marrone’s coaching search turns out.
Marrone went 6-10 and 9-7 during his two-year tenure with the Bills, a respectable performance considering the team’s lack of talent at the quarterback position. Marrone had an opt-out clause in his contract that will allow him to collect the $4 million he was owed to coach the Bills in 2015.
