The Dallas Stars’ Tyler Seguin and the St. Louis Blues’ Vladimir Tarasenko are two of the NHL‘s great young stars, but which one is the more exciting player?

Tyler Seguin and Vladimir Tarasenko are both truly dynamic hockey players and both are fan favorites in their respective cities. Interestingly enough, they both have the number 91 stitched to their jerseys, too. I wanted to figure which is the more exciting player overall. Seguin (22) and Tarasenko (23) have the potential to be the faces of the NHL for years to come, but only one can be considered ‘more’ exciting than the other.

This question, of which is the more exciting player, is essentially asking which player has performed better this year? Scoring points obviously brings excitement as well as victories. Lets breakdown a few categories to held answer this question.

Which Player Is More Consistent?

In the 2014-15 season Tyler Seguin is averaging a league-leading 1.22 points per game. Vladimir Tarasenko has been playing well, but not quite at that level. Tarasenko is averaging 1.05 points per game so far this year. However both players have been immune to scoring droughts this year and neither has gone more than three games without registering a point. Tyler Seguin has to get the nod as the more consistent player this year.

Which Player Is Playing Better Right Now?

A look at the last ten games by each player reveals that although both are producing at a high level. In Seguin’s last 10 games he’s amassed an impressive 12 points. Whereas Tarasenko has registered 10 points — both are on All-Star paces. Neither player can claim to be much hotter than the other at the moment, although Seguin has the slight edge.

Which Player Leads Their Team To Victory More?

Which player elevates their team to victory more often? Well, both players have netted four game winning goals this season. In that category both players are dead even. When it comes to which player’s team has more wins (which depends on the other talent on the team), Tarasenko owns that title. However Seguin has led his team to more wins over his last 10 games. We’re simply going to have to call this one a draw as it’s too close to call.

Which Player Creates More Highlight Goals?

If someone is trying to figure out which player is more exciting then this is actually a valid question. Not surprisingly both are known for putting together some great highlights. Seguin seemingly has pin-point accuracy on his shots and few go top shelf with more efficiency than him. He also boasts an extremely quick release on his shot. Tarasenko seems to possess better hands and speed than Seguin and he has a knack for being especially flashy. He can split defenders with the best of them and he may have already scored the goal of the year. I give Tarasenko the edge in this category.

And The More Exciting Player Is…

Tyler Seguin, but only by an inch. He is simply one of the league’s most complete players and he still hasn’t reached his full potential. Of course, neither has Vladimir Tarasenko. Both of these players are a treat to watch, but as of Jan. 1, 2014 the more exciting player is the Stars’ Seguin.
