Rajon Rondo became a star with the Boston Celtics. The polarizing point guard is loved and hated by many due to his skill set, but there’s one thing everybody can agree on, Boston loves Rajon Rondo. The Celtics franchise loved Rajon Rondo, but the NBA is a business and sometimes a player and an organization need to move on from each other to progress.
The Celtics did just that when they traded Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks in a trade that shook the NBA landscape. Rondo was an all star and a triple double machine going to a contender in the West. The Celtics were finally letting go of the final piece from those glory days with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. While the Celtics were headlined by a big 3, everybody knows how important Rondo was to extending that trio’s life span.
Nobody knows that as much as the fans of Boston know it. Which is why he got a loud cheer tonight in his return to The Garden.
Rondo went through everything in Boston. He started off as a young player trying to find his way in the NBA. As his career progressed, he became one of the Celtics key pieces, and while everybody else got older Rondo got better eventually becoming the face of the franchise. The only problem was the franchise no longer needed him. It’s unfortunate that Rondo’s tenure in Boston finished with trade rumors and injuries rather than victories and good times, but that’s where the Celtics are right now, and that’s where Rondo is right now. At least he got to come back to Boston with a cheer.
