President Barack Obama issued a statement on Sunday afternoon to remember longtime ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, who passed away earlier in the day at the age of 49.
Stuart Scott was a sports broadcasting legend. On Sunday morning, he lost his long battle with cancer and the beautiful tributes immediately began popping up.
It didn’t take long to realize how big of a mark Stuart Scott left on the world, with the emotional tributes on SportsCenter, the reaction and stories on social media and the tearful farewell from his longtime friend and former colleague, Rich Eisen.
Stuart Scott was the man. He was cooler than the other side of the pillow, and he is someone who will always be remembered for inspiring so many.
That inspiration even reached the President of the United States, Barack Obama, who issued a statement from the White House shortly after learning of Stuart Scott’s passing.
“I will miss Stuart Scott. Twenty years ago, Stu helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day’s best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family — but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on SportsCenter were there,” Barack Obama said in a statement to ESPN.
“Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us — with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues.”
Many people feel the same way about Scott and it is beautiful to hear the stories and have people celebrating his life.
It goes to show how truly remarkable he was as a man.
Rest in Peace, Stuart Scott.
