Timofey Mozgov is so tall that passing physicals are challenging
By Robby Sabo
The Cleveland Cavaliers needed to perform a little magic to help newly acquired Timofey Mozgov pass his physical.
When you’re an NBA big-man, being outrageously tall comes with the territory. A messed up back and a couple of bum knees is the price you pay when you’re receiving millions to play a game for a living.
What happens though when passing a physical presents challenges that have nothing to do with a physical ailment?
This is exactly the situation the Cleveland Cavaliers and newly-acquired Timofey Mozgov were faced with today.
As Mozgov hopped on the treadmill for the routine test, he quickly realized either he was too tall or the ceiling was too short for his liking. So, the Cavs organization thought quickly on their feet and took action.
Problem solved.
The Cavs acquired the 7-foot-1 Mozgov and a second-rounder from the Denver Nuggets for two-protected first round draft picks just two-days ago. This was the most recent move made by the franchise in a week that saw a radical overhaul to the roster.
Just two days prior to the Mozgov deal, Cleveland acquired Iman Shumpert and JR Smith from the New York Knicks as Dion Waiters was shipped to Oklahoma City to complete the three-way deal.
With LeBron James still out due to his ailing knee, the Cavs felt like action needed to take place.
On the season, Mozgov is averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. His presence will help fill the void that was left by Anderson Varejao being lost for the season.
Cleveland is currently in a state of flux, losing three in a row and seven of their last 10. They’ll take their very average 19-17 record into Golden State tonight to take on one of the league’s best in Steph Curry’s Warriors.
