Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy missed the first half against the Dallas Cowboys due to an asthma attack, but he came up big when it mattered.

On Sunday the Green Bay Packers came from behind to defeat the Dallas Cowboys 26-21 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. While many are still talking about Dez Bryant’s catch that ended up being overturned and ruled an incompletion, there was another key part to why the Packers won.

Eddie Lacy was held out of the first half, but poured it on in the second half. After the game Lacy revealed that he was held out due to an asthma attack.

“You know your body is good enough to go out and play,” Lacy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “But … you just can’t breathe. And it’s a breathing thing. It’s not something you want to go out and risk … risk something bad happening. There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s a medical condition. I take my inhaler, I do everything I’m supposed to do. When it happens, it happens.”

As Lacy said, it’s good that he didn’t go out on the field and risk something worse happening. It was a wise move by Lacy and the Packers to keep him out until the attack was taken care of and he was ready to play. His second-half contribution was key to the Packers winning down the home stretch. Lacy ran for 101 total yards and took some of the load off an injured Aaron Rodgers who couldn’t do much running himself.

Lacy will be a key part of the Packers attack as they head to CenturyLink Field to battle the Seattle Seahawks. They will need a better performance than their last meeting during the first week of the season. In that match-up, Seattle held Lacy to only 34 yards for a somewhat shocking win. Given Rodgers immobility, Lacy’s output is even more important. The run game spearheaded behind Lacy will need have one of their best games in the NFC Championship game or else Seattle’s defense will all over Green Bay’s passing game.

For now, Packers fans should be grateful that Lacy’s absence was only caused due to an asthma attack. It could have been much worse and Lacy could have foolishly tried to play football while not being able to breathe effectively. There is no way someone with suffering an asthma attack would have been able to effectively run the ball up the field without causing harm to himself and the team.

Now everyone take a deep breath of fresh air and stay calm as Eddie Lacy and the rest of the Packers prepare to take on the Seahawks.
