Former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden responded to the news that Joe Paterno would be getting his wins back.

Friday afternoon the NCAA hit us all with the huge news that through a settlement that was reached, the Penn State football program would be receiving the wins from 1998-2011 back that were vacated under the sanctions of 2012. Penn State was hit with the sanctions as a fallout of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, and stripping the wins from the legendary Paterno was part of the punishment.

The stripping of those wins from the Penn State coach meant that another legend would step in to take the perch of college football’s all-time winningest coach of the FBS level, that being Florida State’s Bobby Bowden.

Now obviously, with Paterno getting the wins back, that means Bowden drops back down to No. 2 on the all-time list.

However, according to Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post, Bowden is happy that his friend got his wins back, and quite frankly, he was never really all that comfortable to begin with when people would address him as the man on top as far as all-time wins go.

Bowden has been very vocal in the past about how wrong it was for the NCAA to take the wins away from Paterno in the first place, so it’s no surprise that he’s delighted his old friend took the top spot back once again.
