Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall is leaving NCAA college football for NFL football but will be changing positions.

Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall has decided to go pro and enter the NFL Draft.  He will not go into the NFL as a quarterback though, having decided to switch to cornerback in order to improve his odds of making an NFL roster.

It is an interesting switch.  Marshall played the position at Georgia in 2011 as a freshman but most believe he has no shot at the NFL if he remains a quarterback.  Because of his athleticism though, scouts believe that Marshall can have success at the next level.

Marshall originally started at Georgia on the defensive side of the ball but was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.  He had chosen Georgia for the opportunity to play both football and basketball.  After Georgia, Marshall went to Garden City Community College before becoming Auburn’s quarterback for the past two seasons.

Marshall’s size at 6’1″ and a half and 205 lbs also likely played a factor in his decision.  He is considered to be too small for quarterback but according to Bleacher Report, he is no longer going to face that problem.

He’s right.  Despite the fact that he played the position briefly at Georgia, the transition from one position to another from NCAA to NFL isn’t as easy as it sounds.  He does sound confident and some others seem confident that it will be his best shot at pro success.

So, the jury will be out until he goes through pre-draft workouts.  Word is he is scheduled to play quarterback at the Senior Bowl this week but he has put the defensive back jersey on in practice today.  Maybe we’ll get a look at him this weekend on defense?  Stay tuned.
