New England Patriots head coach says to ask the NFL anything about the deflated footballs.

The story that isn’t going anywhere has now reached New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for comment.  His comment about the NFL’s investigation per profootballtalk.com?  “You should talk to them about that.”

That’s the official word from the coach.

What did you expect him to say?  “Yeah I did it, so what?”  I guess the possibility exists he could have something that inferred that but no, he’s not going to admit any wrong-doing.  What’s more interesting is that this is still a headline story almost 48-hours after the fact.

The story came out soon after the Patriots 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game Sunday evening.  A ball had been asked to be removed from the game in the third quarter of Sunday’s game but most thought it was because a kicking ball was in play.  In fact it was a ball considered by someone with the Colts to be deflated.

Having a deflated ball is supposed theoretically make the ball easier to throw, especially in colder weather.  How do we know the Patriots did anything to them though?  Can it be proven?  After all, there was the weather factor.  Weather can change the inflation of the ball as well.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers came out on Tuesday and said he actually prefers over-inflated balls as opposed to under-inflated.  To each his own as to personal likes or dislikes.  Fact is, if the Patriots are found to have deflated balls, nothing will change on the field.

The Patriots can be fined and/or be hit with a loss of draft picks if they are found guilty of the procedure.  I doubt the Patriots really care though if it means they get to go to the Super Bowl.  I’m pretty sure that Belichick cares very little as well.

However understanding someone had to ask Belichick about the issue, it still makes one wonder what other answer the reporter and others expected to hear.  In fact, he could have said less as he has done in past with other questions.

The Patriots survived spy gate and the only team that really hated them was of course the New York Jets.  The Patriots paid their fine and lost their picks.  You can see it hasn’t hurt them too much.

The NFL will do its investigation.  The Colts still lose the game.  The Patriots are still in the Super Bowl.  The issue has no affect to the game on the field going forward.  Let’s move on.
