Actor Kevin Costner scolded former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman for his comments about Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who is at the center of Deflategate.

Of course part of the reason Brady is at the center of Deflategate is because Patriots coach Bill Belichick put him there with his deferral in his press conference about the issue. However, people such as former Cowboys quarterback and current Fox color analyst Troy Aikman have more than suggested that Brady knew about and possibly even sanctioned the deflated footballs the Patriots played with in the AFC title game last week.

“It’s obvious that Tom Brady had something to do with this,” Aikman said. “I know going back to when I played, they’ve loosened up the rules in terms of what each team is able to do with the footballs coming into the game. Used to, the home team provided all the balls. And now, each team brings their footballs the way they like them and break ’em in. Used to you couldn’t break them in. So for the balls to be deflated, that doesn’t happen unless the quarterback wants that to happen, I can assure you of that. Now the question becomes did Bill Belichick know about it.” (via Dallas Morning News)

Actor Kevin Costner didn’t like that, apparently, so he took to the airwaves of HLNtv’s Morning Express to say that Aikman was being awfully bold in essentially saying that Tom Brady is a liar as well as a cheater.

"“That’s a tough place to be. Tom said he didn’t know,” Costner said. “Tom might’ve liked the feel of that ball and he didn’t want to say anything about it. ‘I really like the feel of that ball.’ … Maybe I’m sitting here being really naive.” (via Bleacher Report)"

Maybe he is, but as the writer notes, who cares anymore? Anyone with a propensity for an opinion is jumping into the fray. We have everything from ISIS references to Brady’s sudden lack of character destroying the market for sheepskin boots. Clearly nothing is sacred when it comes to Deflategate.

The NFL is currently launching a full-scale investigation into whether the Patriots intentionally deflated those footballs in the AFC title game, but most likely there won’t be any results or punishments until after the Super Bowl. Probably the main question is going to come back to a Roger Goodell quote, as Aikman pointed out during his rant. During the Saints headhunting controversy, Goodell said about coach Sean Payton that “ignorance was no excuse”.

Goodell led a little hypocrisy in that during the Ray Rice debacle, but will he decide that now is a good time to reinforce it?
