2: FA Cup final 2006.

This has gone down as one of the most exciting cup finals in English history, with Liverpool twice coming from behind and the game ending on penalties. Going in to the match Liverpool were clear favorites to get the victory, but two huge mistakes gave the under dogs West Ham a 2-0 lead. Gerrard dragged his team back by playing in an inch perfect pass to striker Djibril Cisse to make it 2-1.

Gerrard stepped up again and smashed home a volley from inside the box to tie the game. However there was yet another twist as a bad cross from West Ham’s Paul Konchesky fooled everyone and ended up going in. All hope was lost as there was little time remaining, however in the dying embers of the match, captain Gerrard rose to the occasion once more. Liverpool went on to win the game on penalties, a truly magnificent performance from Gerrard.

1: UEFA Champions League final vs AC milan.

There was no prizes for guessing which moment was going to be number one on the list, as it is Steven Gerrard’s greatest achievement in football.

Liverpool were under dogs going in to the game and that proved to be an accurate tag because they went 3-0 down to the mighty AC Milan in the first half. All hope was lost and it looked like it was going to be an embarrassing night for Liverpool with all the world watching. Gerrard admits that the entire team had little to no belief that they were going to turn around the huge deficit at half  time, and he simply told them to go out there and win the second half.

Well that’s exactly what they did, thanks to Gerrard dragging them over the finish line. He scored an improbable header to make it 3-1, Smicer made it 3-2 before Gerrard broke through on goal before being taken down in the box for a penalty. Xabi Alonso stepped up and missed the penalty, but thankfully for him and all of Liverpool, he scored the rebound.

Liverpool would go on to win the game on penalties, Gerrard took most of plaudits and lifted Liverpool’s 5th UEFA Champions League Trophy.
