Bill Belichick: No coach I respect more than Pete Carroll
By Evan Massey
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that there is no coach he respects more than Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.
The stage is set for Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday night between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, and both teams are very equal on the field. Both of these teams also have head coaches who are among the best in the NFL, and they share a common respect for each other.

Bill Belichick talked about the respect that he has for Seahawks’ coach Pete Carroll, and said that there is no coach that he respects more.
“Not a coach in the NFL I respect more than Pete Carroll,” Belichick said. “He’s a tremendous coach. He and I have kind of come up together in roughly the same era. We’ve both been defensive coordinators, we’ve both been head coaches. I have a ton of respect for what Pete does as a coach, how good of a fundamental teacher he is, the way his teams play. I’ve studied him from afar. We’ve never worked together, studied Pete from afar over a long period of time. I’ve learned a lot from what he does, and indirectly, I think he’s made me a better coach. I have all the respect in the world for Pete and his staff.”
Those are some glowing words from a coach that doesn’t normally make comments quite like that. Carroll and Belichick are very alike in their competitive nature, but they are nothing alike in personality.
It is going to be a very entertaining Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks, and they are both going to come prepared. Tom Brady and Russell Wilson are also going to be an entertaining matchup to keep an eye on. There are plenty of different ways that each team has advantages, but the coaching will make up for some of those advantages.
Another intriguing fun fact about the relationship between Carroll and Belichick, is that Carroll was the Patriots’ head coach before Belichick took over for him.
When everything is said and done, this game is going to come down to which team executes better. The Patriots have the better all-around offense, while the Seahawks have the more dominant defense. It is going to be a very intriguing matchup to watch, and the coaching on each sideline will be fun to watch as well.
Don’t expect either team to come away with a blowout. It should end up being a very close game all the way through, with the winner being decided late in the fourth quarter. There is always a chance that one team is off, but there simply isn’t a favorite at this point in time.
Belichick and Carroll are fighting to prove which head coach has the bragging rights this season, but they are very equal head coaches and are two of the best head coaches currently on NFL sidelines.
