3. Super Bowl III – Jets 16, Colts 7

The Indianapolis Colts were favored by 18 points heading into Super Bowl III against the New York Jets, and they were unable to live up to that spread. It was a very convincing win for the Jets, and they forced the Colts out of their game.

Joe Namath made the game an even bigger with a guarantee, and he followed through. New York was able to control the football and clock and keep the Colts’ high-powered offense off of the field. Obviously the game plan was executed well, and the Jets won the game in a very low scoring affair.

New York pulled off the improbably win, and is forever going to be one of the best underdog Super Bowl winners in NFL history. This was also one of the key games that helped seal Namath’s legacy.
