Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is trying to get well before Super Bowl XLIX

One of the last things the New England Patriots want before they square off against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX is for one of their players to not be healthy. Perhaps, the last player they can’t afford to have at 100 percent is quarterback Tom Brady.

And unfortunately for them, Brady is currently suffering from a cold.

The Patriots have until Sunday for Brady to get healthy which is plenty of time for Brady to lose the cold with proper medication as colds generally don’t last too long and they symptoms usually decrease as the days go on with proper attention paid to it.

Brady was noticeably sick at the team’s Media Day on Tuesday and at a press conference Wednesday, Brady looked even worse than he did the day prior.

“It’s been lingering,” Brady told said to reporters from the Patriots hotel Wednesday morning. “I’m just trying to get some rest, and a lot of garlic. An old remedy, so I’m trying everything I can.”

Another remedy Brady believes will help him get better is getting out on the practice field.

“It will be good to be back on the field today. There is a lot that goes with Super Bowl week, so it will be good to get on the field and re-focus,” Brady said at the press conference, “We have our game plan set, so now it’s refining it and making sure it’s where we want it to be.”

Brady being sick wouldn’t be the first time an athlete has had to endure through sickness. Michael Jordan in game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz had 38 points for the Chicago Bulls while enduring through the flu and being painfully sick while on the bench.

The hearts of champions always triumph through adversity. However, Brady is going up against a championship defense in Seattle, where even on a quarterbacks best day, they are still better.

Brady knows Seattle is the league’s best defense too.

“They’ve been the best defense in the league for a long time. It’s a big challenge for us,” Brady said, “They’ve been playing really well, especially the second half of the season. There are not a lot of easy plays out there. They’re smart and do a great job playing complementary football.”

When the game finally kicks off, Brady will be ready to go and should be well rested by Sunday. Having a cold is an annoyance for sure but it should be nothing to debilitate his performance when he takes the field against the defending champions.

Brady is looking to match Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw with four Super Bowls and cement himself as the best. No quarterback has ever played in as many Super Bowls as Brady either. He has a chance to further his legacy Sunday.

Michael Jordan furthered his legacy as the best while sick. Now, Tom Brady can do it too.
