Houston Astros try Twitter giveaway, fail miserably
By Alan Condon
Houston Astros’ Twitter account attempted a free giveaway of a José Altuve-autographed baseball if they received 1000 retweets, but it ended up turning into a social media faux pas as they fell way short of the mark.
Apparently, the Houston Astros can’t even give away free merchandise to their fans. 1000 retweets seems like a very reasonable asking price for a professional MLB team, right?

Rule number one of social media: know your fanbase.
Almost every sports team, no matter how big or small, has adopted the use of social media like Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with their fans, but it’s incredibly embarrassing when it goes wrong.
The Houston Astros Twitter account offered a signed José Altuva baseball if they racked up 1000 retweets, but they barely scraped over the 600 mark.
Know your fanbase, Houston Astros.
Surely, the most pragmatic step is to delete the initial tweet, cut your losses and save face.
However, the Astros went with a different approach.
José Altuve is the shortest active MLB baseball player at 5-foo-5 and his short stature inspired the universal phrase “how many Altuvé’s” a home run has traveled.
If that won’t grab you 1000 retweets, then I don’t know what will.
