Jets receiver Eric Decker says Seahawks DB Richard Sherman needs better baby-making timing.

If you only watched ESPN, you’d believe that the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl was just a giant conversation about two things: the already-tired #deflategate and peak Marshawn Lynch-media interaction.

But there have been other fascinating storylines and one that drew a decent amount of attention was the possibility of a superstar missing Super Bowl 49.

Sounds crazy right?

To be specific, Seahawks megastar Richard Sherman is expecting a kid any minute now and the possibility of the cornerback missing the biggest game of the season came up, with Sherman not denying or agreeing that he’d sit one out, creating lots of chatter.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Sherman said (via ESPN) about his potential game day dilemma — as a “cop out,” Decker provided his thoughts on the issues presented because of the baby’s due date.

So what did Jets receiver Eric Decker have to say about the situation? Well, he believes Sherman should work on his baby timing.

From Yardbarker:

"“It’s easy to say that now because I’m not preparing for the game and I’m not in that situation. But with a clear mind, I guess, thinking about that situation he’s in — I mean, you never want to be in it. You’ve gotta time your conception a little better, I would say. But I would be there for my wife and my newborn child.”"

If you’ve ridden along the NFL news wave through the last few years, skipping out on a game to attend the birth of ones child isn’t a foreign topic.

In 2012, Steelers quarterback and Super Bowl winner Ben Roethlisberger said he wouldn’t miss the birth of his child to play in a game.

“I’m not missing the birth of my child,” he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “There’s no chance. I know some fans probably don’t want to hear that, but there’s no chance.”

In 2013, Ravens QB and Super Bowl winner Joe Flacco missed the birth of his child to play, but expressed nervousness during the game in a post-game conference.

While the thought has occurred and been discussed in the NFL, no player has yet to miss a game due to child birth, but the instance HAS occurred in sports, with PGA participant Hunter Mahan (was in lead) and Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy leaving/missing their respective obligations to see their children enter the world.

As expected, all aforementioned athletes received a ton of criticism. I don’t agree with bashing a NFL player.

Most likely, Sherman will be playing on Sunday — at least, as a fan of the sport, that’s what I and many others hope. But if he decides to miss the biggest game in the world to greet his child upon appearance in the world, I see no issue.
