The Seattle Seahawks starting safety suffers a knee injury in practice leading up to tomorrow’s Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

The injury woes continue for the Seattle Seahawks secondary as Kam Chancellor became an addition to the team’s injury report today. The starting safety suffered a knee injury near the tail end of practice yesterday, although it doesn’t appear to be a major injury.

From The Seattle Times:

"On the surface, though, the injury does not appear serious, as the team listed Chancellor as probable to play in the Super Bowl on Sunday. The pool report also stated that Chancellor “left the practice field without a limp but with his left knee wrapped.”"

The news possibly leaves the Seahawks with their three best players in their secondary either hobbled or out. Coming off the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, safety Earl Thomas suffered a shoulder injury while cornerback Richard Sherman had a hyperextended elbow.

Sherman also may understandably miss the game for the birth of his son.

Neither of the injuries is expected to prevent the teammates from playing in the Super Bowl, but a banged up Seahawks secondary may help the Patriots more easily extend the field and allow them to execute their timing-based offense.

This also places more pressure on the Seahawks front seven to get pressure on Tom Brady, push him out of the pocket and mess up his rhythm, negating the effects of a possibly weaker back four.
