Quarterback Peyton Manning is likely to announce his return to the Denver Broncos for his 18th NFL season soon, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Peyton Manning’s status for next season shouldn’t be in question too much longer.

More from Denver Broncos

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Manning is expected to announce his return to the Denver Broncos soon.

"Manning could decide as early as the coming week that he is indeed returning for an 18th season, according to sources.Manning has been fairly persuaded that all will work well between him and new head coach Gary Kubiak, who is ready and willing to fit his scheme to play to the quarterback’s strengths."

While it’s certainly fair to suggest the 2015 season will be his last, don’t expect Manning to announce it as so.

"Even though Manning attended the 50th Gatorade party late Friday night with several athletic icons, including New York Yankees great Derek Jeter, Manning will not announce he will be having a farewell season in 2015. That’s not his style and he does not want to lock himself into a final year, yet."

Although Manning struggled down the stretch of this past season, he still threw for 4,727 yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and led Denver to 12 regular season wins.

Manning’s certainly losing arm strength and not the player today he was even a season go, but he’s still one of the best quarterbacks in the league, making a return for him the right move and great news for Broncos fans.

With Manning at the helm, Denver would enter next season as the favorite in the AFC West.

The Broncos signed Manning to a five-year contract in 2012 after the quarterback spent the first 14 years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. Denver has made the playoffs in each of Manning’s three years with the team, making it to Super Bowl 48, where they were defeated 43-8 by the Seattle Seahawks.

This season, Denver was eliminated in the AFC Divisional Round with a 24-13 loss at the hands of the Colts. Manning completed 26-of-46 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the shocking loss.
