Russell Wilson is running for his life early on as the Patriots coverage is tight.

The story of Super Bowl XLIX so far is the time of possession for the New England Patriots, and how Darrelle Revis and the rest of the Pats defense are blanketing the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive weapons.

Much of the strategy heading into the game dealt with the banged-up Legion of Doom and how’d they handle Tom Brady’s short-to-intermediate passing game.

So far, Brady’s only thrown one pass in the air over 15 yards, which turned out to be an incompletion. The Seahawks’ aggressive Cover 3 defense quite simply hasn’t been aggressive enough and the wide-receiver screens have been killing them.

For the Seahawks offense, Bill Belichick set out to stop Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle run game. So far his defense has done a pretty good job limiting Lynch to only 20 yards on six carries.

The shocker is that Russell Wilson, although he’s not the best pocket passer in the game, hasn’t been able to find anybody down the field, even when he escapes the pocket.

Revis, Brandon Browner, Devin McCourty and company have done a tremendous job up until this point.

Seattle will need to sustain some drives to keep their defense off the field a bit.
