The Daily Mail was a little confused about the Super Bowl winner

Famous London tabloid the Daily Mail has misidentified the winners of Super Bowl XLIX as the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. KICKTV spotted the error:

The error has since been changed on the site, but the URL betrays the original story title.

The story focuses heavily on Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, which is understandable, more so at least than the lack of basic fact-checking from a site that boasts “sports website of the year” just above the misleading headline.

More from New England Patriots

We all know football is not exactly England’s sport of choice, so maybe the Daily Mail was simply trying to get soccer going in America? Lord knows MLS could use the PR boost that would come with a Super Bowl win.

Anyone still confused about who won the game or which sport was played can watch the tape of last night’s game, or visit your local sporting goods store and ask to look at a football and a soccer ball next to each other.

In any case, I’d like to set the record straight, and congratulate the Boston Celtic Patriots Who Wear Red Socks on their big win yesterday. Coach Brian Billick and quarterback Brady Quinn have really cemented their legacy there, and I’m sure they’ll be the winners of many a Tour de France in the future. Cricket sure is a wonderful sport.
