The Golden State Warriors have a passionate fan base that have turned their home court Oracle Arena, into the “Roaracle.” Perhaps this is why the team is teaming up with writer and producer Dan Fogelman to produce an ABC comedy sitcom.

You know to give the fans more of what they want.

From the a post today on the AV Club and from December:

"A yet-untitled comedy created in partnership with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors (Synergy!). As we’ve previously reported, it’s about an NBA rookie who speaks no English and a translator who doesn’t understand basketball, following in the footsteps of so many sports-themed sitcoms about characters who don’t speak English.ABC has given a pilot commitment to a new series from Neighbors and Galavant creator Dan Fogelman. Set in the jumpin’ and dribblin’ world of the National Basketball Association, the series will focus on a hotshot NBA player who doesn’t speak English and “a translator who doesn’t speak basketball.” Fogelman is quoted as saying “it’s basically the international Odd Couple set in the NBA,” though we’d argue that it sounds more like Perfect Strangers set in the NBA, but whatever. Also, as indicated by the number of times we’ve said “NBA” in this paragraph, the series is being made with its full support, which means ABC and Fogelman will be able to use real players and team names"

As the AV Club notes, with the NBA and the Warriors backing the show, there should be cameos from various players and NBA personalities. The Warriors were once featured in the ’90’s sitcom Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, which featured a gym teacher that once played for the team before becoming a high school gym teacher. In the first season of the show, Mr. Cooper played by Mark Curry, gets another try out with the Warriors and in a series of two episodes, he gets a 10-day contract with the team and even blocks Charles Barkley in an “actual” NBA game. You can watch the second episode of this two-part epic on Daily Motion.

This new show sounds quite different from Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper and while the premise does sound a bit hack, Fogelman has been behind some solid movies like Cars and Crazy Stupid Love. Also, Fogelman has made a basketball movie before as he collaborated with former NBA-er Paul Shirley to make the TV-movie The 12th Man. So let’s give him the benefit of the doubt before the show even airs.

Plus as you are reading a website called The Friendly Bounce, you know that there is nothing wrong with having more basketball in our lives.
