Julian Edelman was indeed tested for a concussion after taking a hart hit in the fourth quarter from Kam Chancellor in the Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 49 with a clutch grab from Julian Edelman who took a vicious shot from Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor that had viewers wondering if he just suffered a concussion.

Viewing the hit in live time it looked like Edelman took a shot to the helmet from the 230-pound safety and one of the hardest hitters in the NFL, but looking at the play in slow motion it appeared the hit was to his shoulder and not his head.

In real time social media was flooded with comments about why Edelman was in the game later in the drive and not on the sideline getting evaluated for a concussion. The speculation went so far as to suggest the Patriots neglected a concussion test in order to try and win the game at the risk of Edelman’s health.

According to the AP, Edelman was indeed tested for a concussion and was cleared by trainers and doctors to return to the game so head coach Bill Belichick put him back in the game.

Edelman would make a clutch grab to get the Patriots into the red zone moments after taking the hit and was visibly slow to get back to his feet. Cris Collinsworth said during the broadcast that perhaps a hip injury was the reason for that, while the internet chatter chalked it up to Belichick blissfully ignorant and playing a concussed player for a fourth Super Bowl ring.

Tom Brady overthrew an open Edelman that would have gone for a touchdown but later connected with Danny Amendola for the crucial touchdown that got the Patriots within three and set the stage for Edelman to score the game-winning touchdown on their next drive.

Edelman equipped himself well in interviews immediately after the game and didn’t appear to be suffering from a brain injury as the words flowed eloquently out of his mouth and he didn’t have any issues speaking.

So maybe we should those doctors and trainers on the sideline know what they’re doing after all and the doctors watching on tv didn’t have all the necessary information to make a concussion diagnosis.

Edelman finished the game with nine catches for 109 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets.
