Move aside, Katy Perry. You may have had an impressive halftime show, featuring stunning visual effects and dancing sharks. But yours was not the most impressive halftime show of the weekend.

That honor would belong to this basketball game between the University of Denver and South Dakota State University, during which a live pig was auctioned off.

Don’t believe me? Look, there’s a photo and everything:

Either someone was feeling generous or just generally amused that this was happening at all, because the pig fetched a hefty sum at the auction:

This, naturally, invites a lot of questions, and details are few and far between on this story. Are pigs scarce in South Dakota? Was it meant as a peace offering or a symbol of friendship between the two teams? Is that the Dakota with Mount Rushmore in it? What would the Presidents think of all this?

Of course, it’s possible that the entire state is operating in an alternate reality from the rest of the country. Who knows what goes on there? Feel free to speculate on your own what the reasoning was behind the auction.

So check back with us when you’ve got a pig up for auction at your show, Katy Perry. You’ll have to settle for second place in the meantime. As of now, there are no reports of a Charlotte’s Web situation involving the pig, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground.
