Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo will have surgery for two facial fractures suffered in a game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday.

The Mavericks will have to be without newly acquired point guard Rajon Rondo for an unspecified amount of time, as Rondo will be having surgery to reconstruct his beautiful face.

Rondo suffered a knee to the face from ancient teammate Richard Jefferson, who is somehow still in the league after seemingly being one of the founding fathers.

The long time Boston Celtic was acquired by the Mavericks in a midseason trade on December 18, and was hopefully going to provide Dallas with a distributor and solid defender as the race in the Western Conference heats up.

Rondo was acquired to complement the scoring of shooting guard Monta Ellis.

The Mavericks lost in a shootout to the Golden State Warriors last night 128-114 as Dubs point guard Stephen Curry put up 51 points, mostly from the 3-point line. The Mavericks led by 22 at one point in the game, and Rajon Rondo’s presence would have undoubtedly helped the Mavericks maintain their lead and get an appreciated upset victory over perhaps the best team in the NBA.

Despite being 33-18, the Mavericks sit at only sixth in the West and third in the highly competitive Southwest division. The San Antonio Spurs are creeping up in their division just a game behind them.

Of course, if the NBA ignored all geographical rules and placed Dallas in the East, they would be in third place in the conference and just a half game behind the Toronto Raptors.
