Despite a 9-5 start to the season, Sacramento now finds itself just 17-31, which is the seventh-worst record in the NBA.
Following the Kings’ 101-78 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday — their 10th loss in 11 games — Cousins ripped into his teammates, suggesting that the effort and attitude of his teammates are responsible for the collapse.
He also refused to blame the Kings’ mid-season coaching change for the team’s poor play.
Watch Cousins’ full comments below:
Cousins will likely take some heat from fans and media for this outburst, given his reputation of being a loose cannon. But it’s hard to blame him for being so frustrated, even though calling out his teammates to the media probably wasn’t the right decision.
Cousins is having an outstanding season — he’s averaging 23.7 points, 21.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game– yet he again won’t even come close to approaching a playoff spot.
Everyone has a breaking point and it’s clear Cousins has reached his.
